Opportunities for Parental Involvement
We believe collaboration among all segments of the Mount Miguel High School community is essential. The major decision-making organizations on campus have representatives from all stakeholder groups. The School Site Council and WASC Focus Groups have representation from teachers, students, classified employees, parents, community members, and administrators. PTSA, Music Boosters, Athletic Boosters, AOTT and ROP Advisory Boards, and the Mount Miguel Alumni Foundation support student learning by raising funds to support academic and extra-curricular programs and assisting with student recognition. Parents sit on advisory councils for English Learners (ELAC), Parent Human Relations Committee and GATE with opportunities for district representation. Parent surveys are used as an additional source of information. Parents have opportunities to learn about college entrance and graduation requirements, financial aid, and course content at freshman, Sophomore-Junior and Senior Parent Nights, Back to School Night, and the Parent Institute. Parents are invited to a Freshman Orientation during the Spring of their student's eighth grade year to learn about academic and extracurricular offerings. Parents are asked to participate in conferences when students are working with their counselor to develop a four-year plan. We recently added a Community Liaison to our staff to help us in our efforts to more fully include parents and the community at Mount Miguel. We look forward to expanded opportunities for participation in the future. We believe parent and community involvement is essential to student achievement. We invite your partnership. Staff have input in site decisions through Department Chair Council, School Site Council, ELAC, Site Leadership Team, WASC Focus Groups, surveys, and the Smaller Learning Community (SLC) Committee. Additionally, Department Chairs sit on District subject matter councils. MMHS sends representatives to the Curriculum Master Planning Steering Committee (CMPSC), Professional Advancement Committee (PAC), and other GUHSD committees. The Mount Miguel Alumni Foundation was formed this year.
