The following words are explain, illustrate, prove, relate, and respond. In math class not only do students have to respond with correct answers, but they also have to prove their answers are correct. Also students may have the opportunity to explain the steps to the problems, illustrate with their work, and show how the steps and answers are related. ************************************************************************ ANNOUNCEMENTS $50.00 Reward We are offering a $50 Westfield Mall gift certificate! It will go to anyone who provides information that leads to the identification of anyone who has damaged our property in any way. If you have information, and want to qualify for the $50 gift certificate, just speak with a campus supervisor, teacher, or administrator. Let’s keep our Matador home looking brand new! Only $3.00 for a Mango-A-Go-Go or Strawberry & Banana! SPIRIT DAY! Hey Matadors! Ever wanted to dress like your favorite teacher or faculty member? Now you can! Please take part in student/teacher swap day. It’s next Wednesday, April 14th. BTW! There will be a Runway show in the quad during lunch, where the winner will receive a discount in the finance office! HAVE FUN!! GOT A PRETTY FACE? Make sure you have an ID card with your face on it. YOU NEED AN ID CARD for SAT Tests, AP Tests, and PROM. Come to the Finance Office and get your replacement if you have misplaced your original card. If you need to have your picture taken, look your best. An ID replacement card costs $7. OTAKU CLUB: This week we are watching Princes Mononoke. Come join us today, April 8th, after school in room 337! Interested in improving your reading skills or learning to speed read? SDSU offers a summer reading program for students of all grades. The course is free of charge and meets once a week. See Mr. Williams in the Guidance Office for more information. Devil Pups is a U.S. Marine Corps youth program offered each summer. The program is open to all high school students ages 14-17. Participants spend 10 days at Camp Pendleton with the Marines learning self-discipline, self-confidence and leadership. The camp is free of charge. If you are interested in more information please see Mr. Williams in the Guidance Office. If you are LOOKING for a meaningful & rewarding opportunity, Sharp HospiceCare needs you to volunteer. You will provide support to terminally ill patients & their families in their homes, and skilled nursing facilities throughout San Diego County. There is a FIVE day mandatory training class; to register call 619-667-1900. See Mrs. Ortega in counseling if you have questions. SALUTE TO EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS: Congratulations to Beatriz Angulo and Jorge Hernandez! These two outstanding Matadors have been awarded a $1,000 Salute to Education Scholarship. They will be honored at a ceremony on April 20th where one scholarship recipient will win a new car or truck from Ford! Congratulations and good luck PLANNING FOR YOUR FUTURE WORKSHOP: Want to know all the inside tips for seeking a job? It's as easy as showing up! Free workshops for students ages 15 and older will be held at the La Mesa Community Services Building beginning Monday April 12th from 4 to 6 p.m. See Mrs. Aragon in Guidance for a flyer. ATTENTION SENIORS: Prom Bids will be on sale tomorrow, Friday, April 9th and Friday, April 16th at lunch in the Finance Office. Bids are $60 with an ASB card and $65 without, per person. You must pick up a clearance form in the Finance Office and get cleared before you can purchase your bid. 90 tickets have been SOLD and there are 210 tickets left. Don't delay, buy your bid today. SCHOLARSHIPS: Sprite, Nordstrom and Laptop. See Ms. Aragon in counseling. ATTENTION SENIORS OF ITALIAN HERITAGE: The Anthony Furlano Academic Scholarship is awarded to outstanding high school seniors of Italian Heritage for academic achievement and community service. The Brian Piccolo Memorial Award is given to a graduating senior of Italian Heritage who is involved in athletics. See Mrs. Aragon in the Guidance Office to apply. Hurry, the deadline is April 16th. SENIORS: APRIL 30th is the last day to order your CAP and GOWNS and GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS via mail, phone, or drop-off to the JOSTENS office. Any cap and gown orders after this date can be paid in full at the gym on June 15 at lunch. June 15th is the distribution day for everyone to get their cap and gown. AND IN SPORTS Congratulations to our JV & Varsity Tennis Team! They attained first place in league, beating the number one contender, El Cap! Outstanding performers were Jorge Lebaron & Jacob Lechien, who won all 3 sets! Honorable mention goes to: Anthony Tran, Mario Sigua & Joseph Tran for winning 2 of 3 sets! WAY TO GO MATADORS!!! STAFF/FACULTY SECTION ALL STAFF: Please encourage students who are interested in the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism Management Program filling out the application and returning it to Jeff Wood's mailbox by Friday, April 9. Also, feel free to encourage students who would benefit from the HTM Academy to apply. Just have them swing by Room 225 for an application.
