Phoenix Contract Academy
Welcome to the Phoenix Contract Academy/Program!

This is a very unique program. It is designed to help students that have the following needs;
  1. Who have not been successful in the traditional classroom.
  2. Who have had a problem with attending classes on a regular basis.
  3. Who have had minor behavioral problems.
  4. Who have been attending another school or have arrived too late to be placed in a traditional class.

Students are assigned to three classes (periods 3-5). This is an independent study program. Participants are assigned a contract in core curriculum subjects including; Math, English, and Social Science.

Periods 2 & 6 are considered Flex Periods, where they are not apart of the regular Phoenix program, however the criteria for how a student receives credit for the class remains the same.

Course Requirements
Students must complete the following in order to receive 5 academic credits;
  1. Complete all of the assignments contained in each subject area contract (100%).
  2. Student must physically be in the classroom for a minimum of 70 hours/contract. I.e if a student has 3 classes than he/she should be in class for 210 hours.
  3. Have a passing grade by the end of the contract. (Must have a 60% or higher success rate on assignments and tests).

Homework
  • No homework or make-up work is allowed in the program.
  • No mid-terms or finals; credit is determined by the above required citeria.

Attendance
  • All absences must be resolved with attendance office.
  • The only hours that can or will be accepted when a student is not physically in the class will be authorized school field trips.
  • Students that develop attendance issues will be warned, any issues arising after the warning could cause the students dismissal from the program.

Tardies
  • School policy will be enforced for excessive tardiness. Tardy= loss of time towards contractual hours *No making-up of time lost
  • Students who enter the classroom late after the late bell has already rang, students are considered tardy. Teacher assigned detention/referrals will be written when deemed appropriate.

Report Cards
Report cards are simply progress reports on a students performance from the time he/she enters the program to the time that he/she completes their contract. In the Phoenix program, grades are not averaged as they are in a traditional class in order to determine the overall grade for the semester. If a student meets all of the course requirements, he/she will receive the grade determined by the average success rate of assignments completed for the contract If the student does not meet the full criteria of the program or the contract by the end of the current semester the student will receive a grade of "F" and will have to repeat the entire course over.

Parents are encouraged to contact the teacher at any time to check on the progress of their child. The number to contact Melody Arnold is (619) 667-6589.

This is a program designed to help students that want to improve their academic careers and get caught up in order to graduate on time with their classmates. This is not a program for students to sit and waste time and talk to other students. Only serious candidates will be accepted!!
